Please get help asap: There are things you can do to help yourself get better. Try calling the local Hospital Emergency Room and they often have a crisis number you can call locally to immediately talk to a counselor. If you are suicidal you can call the National Suicide Prevention Helpline 1-800-273-8255 (1-800-273-TALK). Also make sure you follow up with your doctor to assure you are getting your depression treated

What started it?: Many things at your age.. social and hormonal changes occurring, family issues.Taking any meds or drugs ? Diet can also be a huge factor. You need to talk with a caring non-judgemental Dr who will help you honestly explore these areas (in private - no parent or friend allowed), and order some labs (cmp, cbc, thyroid tests, B12). Also-increase exercise, sunlight & tryptophan in diet. Turn off TV

If you are 16: please talk to your parents about how you are feeling and ask to be seen by a psychologist or psychiatrist. Adolescence is a time of huge mood swings and some depression is normal, however if you have thoughts of hurting yourself you need help. You can also speak to a school psychologist, however since it is summer, it is preferable to speak to your parents ASAP.
