since a vasectomy isn't 100% at preventing unintended pregnancies would a caudual epididymectomy be more effective?

Probably not: If you have no sperm in your ejaculate after vasectomy, there is almost no chance of impregnating a female. There is a slight chance of the vas reconnecting after a vas. To be safe you could do a sperm count in a year.
