Need more info: Did you already see a doctor who diagnosed this? Are you taking an antibiotic? If you have already been officially diagnosed, then you should discuss this with your doctor. Some over-the-counter medicines like Robitussin (guaifenesin) may provide some relief. If not for you, then prescription meds are helpful, but you would need to see a doctor for this. Best wishes.

Cough syrups: If your physician agrees and feels a cough suppressant like robitussinDM or Phenergan (promethazine) with codeine would not harm you, ask him/her to prescribe for you so that you get some rest. Sometimes it's advisable to prescribe an expectorant instead of a cough suppressant,however. Your physician would know best.
