Could be many things: A few things could be at work here. First, you're young and still prone to having random irregular periods that can include either longer than normal or heavier than normal. Also, if you are on any hormonal birth control, this can cause this kind of cycle to happen once in awhile while you adjust to the hormones. If you bleed more than 3 weeks, see your doc for a drug to stop the bleeding.
