Common: It has been demonstrated in studies that narcotics increase spasm in the biliary duct. In patients with this problem, the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are preferential to narcotics for pain relief. Treatment of biliary spasm is based on the underlying cause. Your doctor can help determine what this might be.
