A member asked:

What are the risks of having oral sex with someone who just found out she might have the cancerous kind of hpv . will this give me throat cancer ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Hard to say: This is an uncommon cancer but it does occur and the same strains are involved. Your risk would depend on whether she was actively shedding virus at the time of exposure, which is hard to predict. If you acquire the virus in your throat it would take years to evolve into a cancer, if it did at all.
