Thrombocytopenia: Thrombocytopenia means a low platelet count. Platelets are made in your bone marrow along with other kinds of blood cells. They travel through your blood vessels and stick together causing clots to stop any bleeding that may happen if a blood vessel is damaged.

Low platelet count: Platelets are small cells circulating in blood that are the front line of controlling bleeding if a blood vessel is injured. Normal platelet count is about 150, 000 to 250, 000. However, even as low a count as 10, 000 may be sufficient to prevent abnormal bleeding. There are many causes of low platelet count, increased destruction or decreased production from bone marrow.
