I've had emphysema for 14 yrs and my pulmo used to readily prescribe antibiotics & cough meds when i was sick. my new dr won't prescribe either...why?

See below: I can't say for certain the reasoning behind his treatment decisions. However, most COPD exacerbations are caused by a viral illness, which are helped by antibiotics. But, we usually don't know for sure, so we prescribe antibiotics in case it's bacterial.
