Eat & drink right: Gastritis is inflammation of the stomach caused by increase in release of acid which could eventually lead to ulcer formation; therefore, not missing meals, eating a well-balanced diet, not over consuming carbonated, caffeinated and alcoholic beverages are proactive ways to prevent Gastritis from causing more harm.

Be compliant: I believe you were told what to do when you were given the diagnosis. If you were not then talk it over with your doctor. You should know why you have it and what you need to do so it will heal and not return.

Gastritis: Gastritis is an irritation of your stomach lining. It is usually because you either took a medication that irritated it, or ate too much of something that your stomach didn't like. Stop the medication (usually advil (ibuprofen) or something like that) and cut way back on starchy and sugary foods for a few days. See if that makes it better.
