A member asked:

I have been on 20mg lisinopril for 11 years dr switched to losarten 50 mg should i be concerned about too much potassium?

No: The 2 drugs have similar potassium retaining properties. If your kidney function is normal or near normal, you should have no problem with either.

Possibly: Either angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitors(ACEIs) like Lisinopril or angiotensin II receptor blockers(ARBs) like losarten can cause elevated blood potassium levels(hyperkalemia). This should be monitored by your prescribing physician. Assuming your kidneys are functioning reasonably well, you'll unlikely have issues with potassium.
