Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) and OCs: Some antibiotics may reduce the efficacy of oral contraceptives. Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) (trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole) is not one known to have much, if any effect. However, it's not a bad idea to use additional protection while you are taking the antibiotic.
