Protruding jaw bone, plastic surgery?

Yes: Depending on the degree of protrusion, a recession genioplasty can be done. In this operation, the chin bone is cut off the rest of the mandible, slid backwards and fixed into place with screws/plates so it does not protrude as much. This is done by some plastic surgeons or by maxillofacial surgeons.

Yes: A prominent jaw or chin can be treated with plastic surgery. Depending on the condition, there are a few different surgical techniques all of which involve cutting the jaw bone and resetting it back a variable distance.

Protruding jaw bone: A protruding jaw bone may be addressed by plastic surgery. Which technique(s) are used will depend on the cause(s) of the protrusion. Sometimes, just shaving down the chin area is adequate. Sometimes, more extensive surgery is required.

Prognathic jaw: Yes, you most likely need to see an oral surgeon. You may need orthodontics first to set up before surgery. If this is just a chin problem then a genioplasty can be done with no need for braces.

Prognatism: Protruding jaw also known as prognatic jaw can be corrected. I recommend to you to seeek advice from a craniofacial board certified plastic surgeon to do a thorough evaluation and see what's best for you. Sometimes this deformity is associated to abnormal teeth alignement which could be treated at the same time. Best to you!
