Widened Dural sac: The covering around the spinal cord consist of several layers one of which is called the Dura. When this covering or sad about the spinal cord is widened in certain areas where it normally is not then the result may be herniation of nerve roots. There are several associations of congenital syndromes such as Marfan's and neurofibromatosis which can be seen with this type of presentation.
