Not always an STD: The causes of mucopurulent cervicitis (or cervicitis in general) remain largely unknown. STDs like chlamydia, gonorrhea, and herpes can do it, and sometimes trichomonas. HPV probably isn't a cause, but HPV of the cervix can look like cervicitis. So STD testing is always necessary, but reults usually are negative.
