Maybe: A sudden pain could be caused by a number of things including a stress fracture of a metatarsal. You should be esamined and possibly have an x-ray taken.

Ball of foot pain: Tendonitis, capsulitis, stress fracture, ruptured tendon, nerve trauma, neuroma....Can all cause this pain. Most likely it is not your shoes. See a specialist, get some x_rays and an examination to start to see what is going on...
