Yes: For a medication to be sold in the USA, it has to be approved by the FDA, (federal drug administration), which makes the Drug Co. go thru very rigorous trials to prove they are effective and "save" in human subjects. But as the drugs are tested in a limited amount of individuals, when ten of thousands of patients try them they could have more rare or idiosyncratic adverse effects.
