Pleurisy: You're describing pleurisy. It can be due to intercostal muscle strain, but inflammation of the pleura (covering of the lung) is a consideration. The commonest cause is viral infection but there are other causes such as spontaneous pneumothorax (lung collapse), and non-viral infections. A chest x-ray is indicated. Advil, (ibuprofen) which you take, is a good treatment, if uncomplicated.
