Unlikely: Age? Underlying source of infection? Appendix? Female? Colon? There are some common conditions and some uncommon that can lead to peritonitis. Few are congenital.

Not genetic: Acute peritonitis is caused by inflammation and infection in the abdominal cavity. This can be caused by diseased organs such as appendix, colon, Fallopian tubes, gall bladder. The underlying problem triggers the peritonitis that then makes a patient seriously ill and at risk for death
