Conjunctivitis: Eye discharge can be caused by viruses or bacteria and in some severe cases from sexually transmitted diseases. On the other extreme it doesn't have to be serious, it could be simple bacterial overgrowth. Crusty discharge which is clightly itchy is common. If you have eye pain or if lights hurt your eyes or visual impairment it represents a more serious infection.
