Please clarify...: Are you asking about the relative pros and cons of TPN (total parenteral nutrition, given per vein) versus NGT (nasogastric tube feedings, liquids given into the stomach)? Also, what is your grandmother's desire with regard to this and other life-saving treatments?

Both have issues: Total parenteral nutrition (TPN) is an infusion directly into the blood of essential nutrients like vitamins, minerals, fatty and amino acids. Nasogastric tube (NGT) is feeding through a tube those nutrients into the stomach which breaks them down for absorption. Both can provide essential nutrients. TPN ensures delivery of nutrients but carries high risk of infection around the insertion area
