Anti-inflammatory: the family of medicines called anti-inflammatory medications are very helpful for menstrual pain. they are now available without a prescription. It is best to take as recommended on the package until your period is finished. common over-the-counter products: Ibuprofen and Naproxen sodium.

NSAID: NSAIDS (Nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs) like OTC Ibuprofen or Anaprox (naproxen) work well, especially if you start taking it before the symptoms get severe.

Options: NSAID’s, SSRI’s, hormone meds, OTC meds containing diuretics, warm bath, heating pad, exercise & acupuncture are excellent for dysmenorrhea. Avoid caffeine, chocolate, alcohol & salt. Get GYN eval to R/O underlying pathology. Consider omega- 3 fatty acids, magnesium (supplementation or through diet) or Black Cohosh with dr ok. Sipping Chamomile can dissipate pain.
