A member asked:

If you have had the mirena (levonorgestrel) removed and the very next day you start the birth control pill will you be safe?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not necessarily: Mirena (levonorgestrel) and birth control pills work in different ways. Whether you would be safe would depend on what day of your menstrual month you had the Mirena (levonorgestrel) removed. Since many women on Mirena (levonorgestrel) don't have periods, its hard to know where you are. I wouldn't count on being protected but would plan to use a back-up method until you have a period.
