1st herpes outbreak: Genital herpes can occur anywhere from 2 to 12 days after contact with an infected partner, with the average time being 4 days later. Most people (80% of Americans) don't know they have it and so create the risk to an uninfected partner. Of course practicing safe sex should limit the chance for getting herpes, but even condoms are not 100% effective. Hope that helps.
