Several effects: Splenomegaly is an enlargement of the spleen. The spleen usually lies in the left upper quadrant of the human abdomen. In early stages, mild enlargement of the spleen may have no symptoms, but with moderate to severe splenomegaly, there will likely be some reduction in the number of circulating blood cells, abdominal pain, chest pain, early fullness, increased workload on the liver.
