Why ?: Blue baby (bad) defects are evident soon after birth. Others can be sorted out by exam, ultrasound, or other tests. Nurseries are now routinely checking blood oxygen content as a general screening tool but further testing is reserved for those presenting a reason for the extra attention.Sometimes a prenatal ultrasound can pick up on some defects.
