No: HIV tests are not considered genetic tests. Usually HIV-1 antibody test is the first test, and then if this is positive then a confirmatory test is done

HIV: These tests are not genetic in the sense that they measure anything related to their alterations in their genetic materials. The standard antibody tests measure against all strains and the PCR for HIV RNA measures the RNA in all strains of the virus. If you have questions read www.cdc.gov/hiv/basics/testing.html
