Wait a while: Because vision continues to change, we usually wait until age 23 to consider LASIK. After that the result is more likely to be stable. Risks include persistent eye dryness afterwards, occasionally not hitting the visual result so that further treatment is needed (enhancement), and longer term regression over time as some eyes try to get back to their original power.

Safer LASIK: Dear Zahra, Today's LASIK is safer than ever before due to the advanced technology available. Lasers that make the flap have replaced the microkeratome (a mechanical device that used a small blade to make the flap) which is a significant improvement. Other LASIK related side effects have been greatly reduced by technology advances as well, such as glare and halos and dryness.
