Need to be careful: Vivelle is a patch that delivers a hormone called estradiol. Estradiol is a natural, bioidentical hormone. Even so, if you have breast cancer when you start vivelle, it can make the breast cancer much worse, just like your own natural Estradiol can make it worse. You should have a breast exam and a mammogram before starting. Also, if you have a uterus, you need to be on Progesterone with patch.

Difficult question: You will hear negative reports on any type of estrogen. Vivelle is a top choice. It is bioidentical estradiol. It is trans dermal so all the negative aspects of oral estrogen are avoided. It comes in several strengths so the dosage can be tailored to the patient. Bad? Sticky residue left on abdomen and occasional allergic reaction to the glue. Both worth it given the alternatives.
