Yes: Tranxene belongs to the same group as xanax, (alprazolam) ativan, etc. It is, however, very long-acting: it starts slowly, but stays in the body for a long time. People who get used to short acting drugs expect tranxene to work quickly, so might think it doesn't work. The equivalent dose is also important. It works great for anxiety or alcohol/benzo withdrawal.
