It depends on what form of cefixime that was prescribed. The capsule form of cefixime cannot be broken, crushed, or chewed and must be swallowed whole. However, cefixime also comes in a chewable tablet form and this must be chewed or crushed before taking it and should not be swallowed whole. Cefixime also comes in a drinkable form if someone does not want to swallow or chew a pill.
