Vein, artery, nerve: As the major vessels pass over the first rib, it may be compressed by the clavicle . This "compression" in the upper chest, lower neck area, at the outlet of the thorax, may cause numbness in the arm, associated with the brachial plexus, or reduced artery flow, or obstructed vein flow.
