Dr. Michael Gabor answered

Specializes in Diagnostic Radiology

MRA/MRV: You may or may not be getting an IV contrast injection. If so, a small needle/catheter will be inserted into a peripheral vein, most likely the antecubital fossa in front of the elbow. So, there may be a little discomfort from the needle stick, as in all needle sticks. Otherwise, the MRI scan is completely painless. Sometimes it can be a little noisy...ask them for headphones and music.
