A member asked:

Is it possible to be more prone to cancer than others?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: genetic alteration leading to cancer occur when a pair of genes controlling cellular function are mutated. These genes known as alleles lead to the development of cancer when both are affected. If born with both genes mutated the cancer arises as a genetic familial problem. If only one allele is involved, cancer develops later. If both genes are normal , mutations and cancer occur later on.
