Sciatica: Sciatica refers to a pain that radiates into the lower extremities typically because of impingement of nerves exiting the lower spine. Less common is impingement in buttock area. One does not need necessarily to experience any buttock pain with sciatica. In fact, sciatica itself should not cause localized buttock pain. This is a misnomer when sciatica is confused with buttock pain.
