A member asked:

24 weeks pregnant and drs want to put me on metoprolol for supraventricular tachycardia. they say it's fine but online says it's pregnant cat. c! safe?

Metoprolol: Yes, it is category C. However, your tachycardia can easily be a much bigger problem for the health of your pregnancy. During your bouts of tachycardia the blood flow to the placenta is compromised to a certain extent. Repeated bouts of tachycardia could affect the development of your baby. It is a balancing act, but taking the medicine is almost always the better choice for the pregnancy
