A member asked:

A foodborne illness is a disease that is transmitted to people by food and water, right? so what if i drink shots of tequila with meals?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

You get drunk: While alcohol is a disinfectant and does kill germs and while there is some evidence that drinking alcohol with raw oysters lessens one's risk of getting disease, i wouldn't count on it as a method to avoid food-poisoning. You'd have to drink so much to kill bacteria that you'd be drunk and lot's of food poisoning involves a toxin from bacteria which isn't killed by heat or alcohol!
