Yes: Lidocaine should work but most important aspect to avoiding pain during intercourse is lubrication (typically foreplay or touching). Also, make sure you are in control of the depth of penetration so that if it's painful, you can stop. Often best managed by you being on top. If you want to use cream, then apply to outside of vulva. I don't recommend creams as can cause infection of vagina.
