Cocaine doesn't have: different effects on different parts of the brain. It works in older areas in the midbrain that are our reward/pleasure centers, and causes the release of lots of dopamine, the chemical released when we are happy, or exercising. Over time, excessive use of stimulants, particularly methamphetamine, but Cocaine as well, can damage those centers to where you don't feel pleasure without it.
