Are there different types of cervical cancer?

Yes: The majority of the cases are invasive squamous cell cancers, usually arising from the ectocervix. 10-15% may be adenocarcinoma arising from endocervical mucous producing glandular cells. There are rare mixed cell types, neuroendocrine tumors, and sarcomas, lymphomas, or melanomas.

The most: Common cervical cancer is squamous, but there are adenocarcinomas as well. Some aggresively grow locally, some are slower. A few are capable of distant travel. Early detection and treatment are key to successful treatmnet and cure.
