Pregnancy dating: A positive pregnancy test and a negative ultrasound, that is no fetal heart beat and no baby, means that the woman got pregnant later than she thought and the pregnancy just can't be detected with ultrasound, yet. A repeat ultrasound in two weeks will definitely show a pregnancy; if not, this was a "biochemical" pregnancy and unfortunately a miscarriage has to be anticipated.
