A member asked:

Can you tell me how the prescence of carbon dioxide reduce the affinity of heamoglobin for oxygen?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Bohr effect: Any physiology textbook will explain this to you. The shape of the hemoglobin molecule is changed slightly. It's a good thing that it gives up its oxygen more easily when there's a lot of carbon dioxide / low pH, as that's a sign that oxygen might be needed in the area.
