A member asked:

Can you tell me how the mechanism of hyperosmolality due to vomiting in term of pathophysiology?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Homework?: Vomiting by itself does not cause hyperosmolarity. Either there is a misunderstanding or somebody doesn't know their subject. If a person isn't able to take anything by mouth and isn't getting fluids from somewhere else, they'll become hyperosmolar from the insensible loss of water through breathing and sweating.
