After recovery: After you fully recover from your injury any residual impairment can be assessed for the amount of disability that remains. There is no set time for this. (Impairment is loss of normal function, disability is loss of ability to perform activities). It is possible to have an impairment that does not translate into a disability. For instance you could lose part of a toe but still have full function.
