Yes: Rice cereal is thinner when mixed and easier to swallow in the transsition from sucking to eating. It is also less allergenic . Oatmeal cereal is thicker and more caloric, whic is a good progression from rice cereal to chewing.

Rice vs Oatmeal: You already got a pediatric answer. Here is an answer for adult nutrition: 1 cup cooked rice = 216 calories. 1 cup oatmeal = 145 calories. Rice has more Niacin. Oats have more thiamine & soluble fiber. I think Oatmeal will provide more antioxidants & fiber.
