Depends: Some dentist's have a milling machine in their office and can make it right on the spot. Sometimes it is sent to a dental laboratory and can take about 2 weeks. It should not hurt as you will be numbed.

See your dentist: Dental onlays/crown pain is usually the consequence of dental crown that does not lay on the tooth properly or it could possibly sit too high. Nevertheless, sounds like a long time for a crown to still hurt. If you have symptoms that persist for 3 month, you should report them to your dentist for an evaluate and a treatment recommendation. Good luck
