Diet & exercise: The answer is complex: multiple avenues should be pursued. 1) Weight management, get your body mass index in the 20-25 range. 2) Proper diet, with low fat diet, max dietary fat less then 30% of calories ingested, and saturated fats, less then 7% of calories and avoid trans fats, 3) exercise. Burn in the range of 1000 calories a week. Other things too but do those as a start, meds available too

Most true cholesterol elevations that affect health are caused by genetics and require treatment. Diet and exercise only go so far to prevent early death from arterial blockages.
