A member asked:

Same dosage as adult of azithromycin in pneumonia for a 6 year old weight 25 kg and also add 375 mg augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) 3x1 ? is there a risk of over dosage?

Zithromax dosage: The appropriate dose of Azithromycin for a child of 25 Kg is not the same as the dose for the adult. Higher doses are sometimes used for diseases like Pertussis.

Dose based on weight: In pediatrics, med dosing is usually based on weight. For a simple pneumonia, the Azithromycin dose for 25 kg child would be half the adult dose: 250 mg for 1 day, then by 125 mg daily for 4 more days. Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) dosing would also depend on weight and the specific illness being treated. Those 2 medications act differently and don't interact--as long as each dose is appropriate, you should be ok.
