Leukemia Treatment: Leukemia response to treatment depends on many factors, but the most powerful are: (1) type of leukemia, (2) genetic mutations in leukemia cells, (3) age of the patient, and (4) fitness of the patient. For some leukemias, like APL, most people are cured. In CML, the leukemia can be kept at bay for many years with an oral pill. Most patients with CLL are just watched closely and never treated.

Depends.: There are many different kinds of leukemia. Some are extremely responsive to treatment, others not so much. Some leukemias are aggressive, and some so slow growing they may not need treatment for years. The physician treating the patient is best suited to answer this question.
