Depends...: Whether or not a baby on a ventilator will breathe on its own depends on many factors including the reason why the baby is on a vent, the age of the baby, development of the baby, whether or not the baby is improving, comorbidities, etc. But, there are lots of babies who are successfully liberated from the ventilator but need to know more specifics about the individual baby to predict!
