A member asked:

Does risperidone work right away?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

In some respects: It depends on the desired effect. It eases acute agitation right away. Its antipsychotic effect usually takes a couple days to start. If given to "help" an antidepressant work (not FDA approved for this), that usually takes a few days too. As with most psychiatric meds, side-effects (e.g., sedation) can occur right away, but you often have to wait for the benefits.
